What an ending to Alastair Nathan Cook who retired or rather forced to retire by the ECB. Cook was an outstanding batsman and is the leading run scorer of all time for England as of date. Cook has 12,472 runs in test cricket, just one run over our very own Kumar Sangakkara. Cook’s last test inning earned him 147 runs, which is a dream end to a great career. This was on top of the 71 he scored in the first innings. England having trounced India in the 5 match series 4-1 Cook retires on a real high. This brings back the memory of the saying “You should go when everyone is asking why your going and not when they are asking why your not going” I guess a good cue to take for our leaders in high places.
Having said this, I think its two year too premature for Cook to retire. He has at least 2 more years of solid cricket in him.
We see the England team oozing with talent, and the Ashes should be an interesting series to watch.
Happy.lk wishes Alastair Cook a happy retirement and the best of everything in the life he choses post International Cricket.
